Title: Christine
Characters/Pairings: Spock/Christine, Spock/Uhura
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: I don’t own anything
Summary: A brief survey of Christine's acquaintence with Mr. Spock
A/N: This is a companion piece to
The Secret. Here we learn more about the situation from Christine's POV

During her first year at the academy, she hears about a new student.  A Vulcan, the first of his race to attend Starfleet Academy.  They say he's like a robot--that he never smiles.  And that he can scramble people's brains.

---

The first time she sees him in person is her second year, when they have a class together.  He looks just like a human, except his ears are pointed.  Aside from a rather severe haircut, he seems less scary-looking than they said.  He's a very good student.  He doesn't talk to anyone, though.

---

In inter-species ethics class, they are required to partner up.  No one asks Spock.  The say he's a weirdo, and that he's stuck up.  Thinks he's better than everyone.  Christine is curious, but a little scared of him.  She introduces herself and asks if he'd like to partner up.  He is very unfriendly, but agrees.

---

They meet several days a week at the library.  She is impressed with his work ethic, and his innate intelligence.  He doesn't need a partner for this project, but he's required to have one.  Christine contributes as much as she can, but it's hard to keep up with him.
There is no chit-chat, only studying.
One day, she asks him about his family.  That's very personal, he responds curtly.  Very curtly.  He looks up and sees her fighting back tears.  A flicker of awareness passes over his face.
He abruptly apologizes for his error.  He explains that the nuances of human social niceties are foreign to him.  She nods silently; she understands.  They continue to study.

---

She sees him from time to time on campus.  Occasionally, she approaches him and asks him about his research.  She enjoys the sound of his voice.

---

Their fourth year, he is ill.   She researches his symptoms and through creative channels, she finds out what he has.
Several days later, he sits in her apartment, shivering.  She is his only friendly acquaintance, outside of his roommate.  And she is the only one who understands what is wrong with him.  She takes his hand, brings him to her bedroom, and turns off the lights.
She begins to undress him.  No--he stops her.  He undresses himself, and she follows suit.  His hands reach out to her.  He finds her shoulders, lowers his face to the curve of her neck, and she encompasses him with her arms.

---

They never once reveal themselves in the light.  She brings him food, and they take separate showers.  Three days like this.
    He recovers.

---

They say nothing, but she understands.

---

They are both assigned to the U.S.S. Enterprise.  It will be difficult for her not to think of him.

---

She and Lieutenant Uhura become fast friends.  They get each other.  They are fearless, accomplished, fragile, complex, and fun.

---

She notices that the two have become very close.  Spock seems at ease around Nyota.  Christine has never seen him this way.  Nyota is beautiful and intelligent, and confident.  She nurtures, but not like a nurse does.  She nurtures him like a partner.

---

Nyota and Spock no longer hide their relationship.  Christine loves them both.

---

Spock walks into sickbay and asks to speak with Christine privately.  He is upset, in his Vulcan way.
    Nyota knows.
It is the first time they've spoken of it, ever.
It's the second time she's seen Spock look desperate.

---

She explains everything to Nyota.  Nyota is hurt, but she gets it.
After a few months, they are friends like before.

---

She is a great nurse.  She has friends who care about her.  Her life is a good one.
She still sees him in her dreams.

---

Two years later, she has the opportunity to transfer to another ship.
Time to move on, she decides.
    It works.
